If you wish to learn about my professional background and the therapeutic modalities that I use, please continue to read below. If you wish to read about my approach please read the Safe Therapy Space Clinic page.
I am registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board. My clinical psychology training was psychodynamic. I later completed training in Integrative Psychotherapy, focusing on Gestalt and Existential Psychotherapy, and I have been a UK Council for Psychotherapy Registered Psychotherapist (UKCP reg.) since 2007.
I have worked in multiple clinical settings, from University Counselling Services to Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Units. My most recent role , for the past nine years, has been in the public health system at the Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Auckland City Hospital.
My enduring interest in mindfulness practice translated to some professional engagements in this field including being Certified Teacher and approved supervisor of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT); Director of Mindfulness Auckland, where I facilitate MBSR, MBCT and Residential Meditation Retreats (mindfulnessauckland.co.nz); Co-Director of the Mindfulness Training Institute: Australia & New Zealand (MTI) – this internationally recognised not-for-profit organisation trains and certifies MBSR and MBCT teachers in our part of the world (www.mtia.org.au).
- ADHB Allied Health Scientific and Technical Award for the Mental Health Directorate (2016).
- ADHB Health Excellence Awards – Finalist (2016)
And not related to my professional background but most importantly in my life, I am the father of a wonderful 16-year-old teenage girl.
